New Sea lock
IJmuiden
After almost 100 years the Noordersluis in IJmuiden needs to be replaced.
A new, larger sea lock should improve the accessibility of the port of Amsterdam and stimulate the economy in the region
by providing tide-independent space for the ever-expanding seagoing vessels.
The new sea lock will be 70 meters wide, 500 meters long and 18 meters deep.
Construction started in early 2016 and the new sea lock will be available for shipping by the end of 2019.
The design life of the new lock is 100 years.
Collaboration
Rijkswaterstaat has awarded the construction of the new sea lock at IJmuiden at the entrance of the North Sea Canal to ConsortiumOpenIJ.
In this consortium VDS Rotterdam plays a role in the steel fabrication of the lock.
